Pinterest – A Social Media Game Changer?

by 5 Dollar Dinner Mom on February 6, 2012

Once I moved past the “pinterest addict” phase, I noticed something interesting. Rather than googling something, I found myself searching on Pinterest.

We wanted to share this very interest infographic posted on Mashable, along with the article…Pinterest Becomes Top Traffic Driver for Retailers. We’d love your thoughts on the subject! What does the future hold for Pinterest?

Has Pinterest been a game changer for you, your blog or your small business? In what ways are you using Pinterest to grow your online community, platform and presence?

I’ve started a Monday Pinterest Linky. It is great exposure for bloggers, helps my readers get ideas with the “thumbnail images” and everyone is free to pin what they like listed. I’m having a great time with it. And Yes I search Pinterest for ideas on projects first. I’m a visual person, so it’s heaven!

How does it expose bloggers? Seems like the biggest bonus comes for the crafty people. If you don’t have a craft blog or food blog, how could this work for you?

Pinterest continues to be at the top of my referring sites – daily. I am amazed at the amount of traffic coming from Pinterest.

Like you, Karen, I focus on Pinterest on Fridays. My Friday Favorite Finds linky asks people to share their favorite recipe finds from the week – and 99% of the finds are embedded directly from Pinterest.

Pinterest is the #3 traffic driver to my site! (Behind facebook and Google)

I need to get more intentional about using it as a marketing tool.

I’ve had lots of traffic as well, but find it very similiar to StumbleUpon, in that it’s hit or miss. Some things you think will be a hit, aren’t and vice-versa.
The thing I’m struggling with right now is adding words to my photos. I’ve always like my food photos to be clean and only have a watermark on them. I’ve read several articles that say the photos are better with words, but it seems like many of my photos are getting pinned without words.
So torn…what’s your opinion?

I’d do a bit of both and gage what works for you.

Without a doubt it’s been huge! It’s always fun to see how quickly your ideas spread because of Pinterest. I love it:)

I see great strength from the Pinterest style. Seems like a business can promote items, a mom blogger can build credibility or authority, but I’m trying to figure out how it would benefit other groups. Ideas?

I always search through Pintrest before I go to Google. :)
