Do you subscribe to your own blog?
Sounds a bit narcissistic, but it’s really the smart thing to do. How else would you know if something were amiss with your feed or email delivery?
Most likely that is not going to happen, but there is another reason to subscribe to yourself!
How else would you know what your readers are seeing?!?
Put yourself in your readers shoes. Put yourself into their office/desk space. Now, open their email/reader (your email/reader really) and take a look.
How does it look?
- Both in the reader and the email?
- What do you like?
- What do you dislike?
- What would you change?
- What would you suggest to the blog owner (you, remember!) for improvements?
Now.
Make a short list of things you’d like to improve about your email subscription and reader feed.

Adding ads to your feed, both email and reader feeds. And customizing the “confirmation email” that readers get after they subscribe to your email newsletter.

Brilliant Erin! Why have I not thought of that! I am doing it now. Looking forward to the upcoming post. Thanks!

I wish I had thought of that sooner! When my blog moved to WP some people got the feed change and some didn’t, and I only heard about it because I know some of the subscribers in real life. Great tip!

My oldest subscribed to my blog when I started blogging, but I never thought to. Well, I just subscribed to my blog, thanks so much for the great reasons why I should.

I feel like someone should hit me upside the head right now while shouting, “DUH!”. How did this never occur to me either? Thanks!

I do subscribe and that is a great tip! I added my logo to emails per your advice a while ago and am looking forward to your other pointer – customizing the confirmation and email colors, etc.
THANKS!!
