You are done being pessimistic. Yes, you know more now than you did before and it will be to your advantage. If for nothing else, it will help you manage your emotions as you see the same things happen time and time again. Hopefully you now have a realistic understanding of how YOU want to proceed with YOUR blog. You take all of the advice and tips shared everywhere and decide to go against the grain and mix niches. Scary stuff, right?!
I truly believe in creating goals for everything. I think for blogging they are equally important. It’s simply a measure for YOU to gauge your own actions. Often times, this blogging business can seem competitive. Truthfully, the only person I care to compete with is myself. Yes, I said it!
When you are now conscious of what it is that you think it is you want to do, go back to your goals that you initially created. Are you achieving what you set out to do? Look at the mission of what you want to achieve. Are you on a path to success? Again, success should be defined by you and no one else.
The reality is that you are living in your own reality. Life is what you make of it. Tomorow is a gift but be thankful for the present (isn’t that what the Turtle Master said on Kung Fu Panda?). If you are passionate, hopeful, and excited about the direction you are headed, you can be realistic about how to proceed. Take baby steps, break down your goals and be grateful for the ability to take that step.
Now that you know where you are going, what you want to achieve, who you look to for encouragement, you can still have hope! If you do fall into the Informed Pessimism stage, you know it’s reality and you will soon come out of it learning something. At the end of the day, focus on YOUR goals and you will be more satisfied when YOU achieve them. I will even bet that you will be more creative too!
There were times when I would get down on myself about not getting on “this list” or in “that column.” That would take me back into being pessimistic even though I knew that many of those lists didn’t measure quality. You know what I wasn’t doing? Being thankful, just like the Turtle Master said! I have been blessed with many amazing opportunities. Why was I being so pessimistic for something so trivial? Honestly, it’s because others were also. Live, learn, separate and move on.
For the record, I am not knocking some lists. There are many bloggers whom I respect that are mentioned. My issue is that when it simply takes an email request to be on a list, that shows you the measurement. It is clearly less about quality and more on your ability to send an email. (=:
I stay realistic and hopeful today with clear goals and a mission. I have a strategy and there are actually many lists involved. However, the only lists I am focusing on are my readers’ shopping lists…followed with their receipts to show ME that what I do is adding value and changing lives. I don’t think I will ever grow tired of those lists!
What do you care about? How are you remaining a hopeful realist?
