NoFollow WP Plugin

by 5 Dollar Dinner Mom on January 15, 2010

Tara shared with us the importance of using NoFollow attribution to help improve your pagerank.

If you use WordPress, we recommend installing the “NoFollow” plugin.  The plugin will add a check box to the “link box” that pops up when you wish to add a link to the highlighted text.  When you check the box, the rel=”nofollow” code is automatically added to the HTML with the link.

No manual HTML code entering required!

And speeds things up too!

Installation Steps:

  • To install this plugin, click on the download link.
  • Save the .zip file to your computer.
  • Head to your dashboard and click on “Add New” under Plugins.
  • Click on “Upload” at the top.
  • Browse for the .zip file.
  • Click “Install Now.”

To test for proper installation, head to a new post and attempt to add a link.  The little check box should appear!

I’m sorry for my ignorance, but what’s “the little check box”? I added a nofollow link some time ago, and I’ve wondered if it’s working. When I link to anything: another blog; etc. A box comes up to insert the link, and choose whether I want it to open in another window or not. Is that the “little box”?

The check box is inside the box with the “open in another window” box that pops up when you link to text. Yes. That’s the box.

Just a quick note that I installed this plugin and it had a fatal error – site continued working fine but admin panel was inaccessible until I deleted plugin folder. Could quite possibly have been a conflict with another plugin, but thought I’d mention it!

Possible Carrie…I have not had that problem with the plugin, and have not heard of others having it either.

If anyone has any issues with this plugin, I thought I would share my experience. I kept installing and it would never work. Finally, Kelly at Faithful Provisions told me she deactivated the Tiny MCE plugin and it worked for her. I took her advice and it now works fine for me too! So, if anyone has Tiny MCE installed, I would deactivate. Activate the nofollow plugin and see if it works then.

Thank you, I am new to blogging and I keep thinking “there has to be an easier way to add and maintain these links”.

Does anyone know of a way to store links and to be able to choose from a list of pre used links? (does that make sense?)
Jen

Can you give us your opinion of switching from Blogger to WordPress or self hosting?

Thanks for all your information!

Stockpiling Mom, I shared an extensive post on switching from Blogger to WP Self Hosted at Mommy Snacks. I will do a post here as well to share a few tips for those considering the move (based on my experience) if that helps.

Oh thank you! Ever since I read the post on no follow, I decided to quit linking much because I didn’t want the hassle of extra coding, but it has been on my mind! Thanks for the info!

Thank you so much for this information. I switched from Blogger to WordPress 2 weeks ago and just love it! I’ve been learning so much about plug-ins and didn’t know which one to use for this. I have been manually inputting this code into my links :) I just installed this plug-in and the box to check is there! Wonderful!
