Make it Easy for Your Posts to be ReTweeted

When I find a great post – one that’s really encouraging or inspiring to me as a mom – my first thought is that I want to pass it along to other moms. Even if the great post is just a tip or idea for making life run a little more smoothly, I want to share it so that others can benefit from it too!

The Problem with ReTweeting

I have found that Twitter is a great tool for passing along links to the posts I’ve enjoyed reading. However, I’ve also found that it can be a multi-step process to re-tweet a specific post. The process either involves shrinking the URL so I can stay within my 140 character limit or visiting the bloggers Twitter page and hoping that I can find their tweet about the post to pass along. I have to admit that this whole process has actually prevented me from passing along some really great blog posts that I’ve read – I just haven’t had the time to do it!

Knowing that this might be the case for other bloggers reading my own blog, I did a little research and was thrilled to find that WordPress offers a plugin, Tweet This, that does just what I wanted.

The Solution to the Problem

Once you install and activate the Tweet This plugin, you can easily customize its settings to make the tool work the way that you want it. At my blog, I display a link containing the post title for readers to click on. Once they click on the link, they are automatically taken to Twitter. The plugin automatically populates their Twitter box with the title of my post and a tiny URL!

I’ve heard it said that the easier you make something for your readers to do, the more likely they are to actually do it. As a blog reader myself, I know this to be true! So, if you’re wanting your readers to be tweeting about your posts, try out the Tweet This plugin. It can’t get much simpler than two clicks.

The plugin also puts a “Tweet This” button at the bottom of posts in your RSS feed, too.

Yet another perk to having WordPress instead of Blogger. :( Maybe someday…

Thank you for the awesome instructions and information!! When I was doing some resesarch to add this to our blog, I noted the following from the developer of Tweet This at http://bit.ly/4c8kVu (“Sorry guys, I’m not planning any more updates to Tweet This. I don’t feel like coding anymore… I’ve gotten lazy”). ACK!!!

I did find another awesome plugin (tweetmeme) that serves some huge blogs/sites!! I just installed the tweetmeme plugin (see http://bit.ly/rLF1V) and its working great “out of the box”!!

Has anyone else used this plugin? I like the look and feel of it as well and its very configurable. I’m also hoping with the large usage we won’t see “the developer” get bored and stop supporting it. :)

Enjoy!!!
