How to Upload and Link to a PDF File in WordPress

by Andrea @ Savings Lifestyle on January 6, 2012

It’s great to refer people to your own resources. One way to do this if you have printables, checklists or other files is by uploading the file to your site. This is a simple 4-step process to uploading and linking to a PDF file hosted on your site.

  1. Go to Media and Add New.
  2. Upload the PDF file.
  3. Go back to your Media Library and select “Edit” next to the file.
  4. Copy the File URL and paste as a hyperlink for your post.
Don’t forget to add anchor text!

Also remember to hyperlink any images related to the file as you can we did above with the Small Business Checklist. People click images so you will want to ensure that the URL takes them to where you want them to ultimately land which equates to higher conversions.

What system did you use to create your blogging checklist? Was it done in Word? What works best for creating printables?

Thanks!

Kristia, I usually create my documents in Word and then save them as a PDF before uploading to share with readers.

Kristia, I have a basic publishing program (called Swift Publisher for Mac’s) to make this printable. You can use just about any program though and just save the file as a PDF. HTH!

How did you create the image that showed your pdf? I’ve seen it done for websites too ( shrunk)

Melitsa, I use skitch to create it (skitch.com). It’s free. However, you can resize your image to a thumbnail size as well.
