Feedburner, the email subscription service run by Google, recently added the “Email Branding” feature. This feature allows you to customize the subject line of the daily email that is sent through Feedburner to email subscribers.
To customize the subject line of your daily email, follow the steps below:
- Login to Feedburner.
- Click on the feed you wish to customize.
- Click on the “Publicize” tab.
- In the left sidebar, click on “Email Subscriptions.”
- Finally, click on “Email Branding.” The page should look like the one below.
To add the title of the latest post to the subject line, enter${latestItemTitle} – Website Name into the box at the top. On this same page you can also add your site’s button in the “logo URL” box, as well as customize the fonts and colors of titles and links in your email.
Once saved, the new email subject lines will show the most recent post title from when your newsletter is sent out.
Top line is “pre”-customization and bottom line is after customization of the subject line.
Subscribers will appreciate that they can see at least 1 of your post titles in the subject line before opening the email! If you are a deals blogger who posts several times a day, attempt to have a “HAWT” post with a catchy title up just before your email goes out…as this will encourage subscribers to open the email and see all the deals!

I particularly like this approach to customizing the title of the e-mail because it helps the messages stand out in people’s inboxes. With so much e-mail from every possible source flying in daily, it can be hard for people to prioritize what they want to read first. By including the title of the post in your message subject, it helps people get a glimpse of what they can expect from the post and give them more of a reason to open and read the message. As a bonus, the same things you to do to apply SEO to a post will help with e-mail open rates as well.

Also, I customized the subscribe email to readers, but the generic one is still showing up. Ugh.
Maybe I have to try all over again?
Thanks for any help!
